Fashion Spotlight: Rebecca Minkoff

Is it just me or is Rebecca Minkoff everywhere? And I couldn't be happier about it. Her stuff is fresh, classy and cute. Just like me. (The classy part is debatable)

Minkoff creates shoes and apparel but my favorite are her bags. She's from San Diego and we all know California born is always a plus. She got her foot in the door early when she moved to New York, and her big break was the Morning After Bag. Her is our girl Lindsay Lohen sporting it:

Functional, cute the Morning After Bag is perfect to carry your belongs when you know you might not come home that night! (As the name implies...) However, personally this is my favorite piece that is out now:

I'm saving up so that I can purchase a Minkoff bag. They are just too beautiful to pass up! Keep your eyes out when reading magazines, surfing blogs, or shopping for Rebecca Minkoff! She is not a designer to brush off, she's getting huge and she will only get bigger.

I'm on a plane right now blogging from 10,000 feet up! I bought internet to do my homework, but because of the cabin pressure I can't hear my professor talk with my shitty iphone headphones. buzzkill.

anyways there is so much turbulence.... that sushi my mom gave me for lunch isn't really sitting well. I also have this terrible cough. The people around me must hate me. Especially the girl sitting next to me. ARE YOU READING THIS? LOOK AWAY. anyways I had a classic case of I needed to watch kittens inspired by kittens.

International Criminal Court - Effective?

A couple days ago the International Criminal Court (ICC) sent out a warrant to arrest Colonel Qaddafi, his son, and the intelligence chief of the Qaddafi government. Libya is not part of the ICC and the ICC has no police force, so will this be effective? The ICC has always seemed, at least to me, more of a symbolic institution than an actual effective institution. There hasn't been any substantial cases that have established the ICC's power. When the ICC charged Sudanese president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, with genocide charges it did little to help Sudan. Sure, it prevented the president from showing up to international talks and being a player on the international field, but he is still a powerful player in Sudan, where he is more harmful.

When it comes to the United States, I doubt they will ever let the ICC have power over the Supreme Court. As brought up in the Political Science class I'm currently taking, the case of Medellin v. Texas had the Supreme Court rule over international law. If the ICC is only as powerful as its most powerful states ....is it really accomplishing anything? It seems like it is more of just a waste of space to divert the common people from the fact that things, such as the Libyan conflict, are not going well. By sending out these warrants, it makes us feel like more is being done. But with over 100 days since NATOs air raid campaign started, and with the Congress rejection of 20,000 more US troops ....are we really making any progress?

On that note, is the Libyan conflict one the US should get itself deeply involved? As we know, there are many countries out there battling civil wars, insurgents, etc. Will this just turn into another Vietnam War? We have to chose our battles and I know it is hard on policy makers with always being forced to react to the hot topic that is going on in the world playing field. Personally, I think we must finish one task before starting another. We were making progress with Afghanistan when we decided to put even more force in Iraq. With Osama dead, now is the time to make big moves. If we are going to take a bigger role in Libya, we can't half-ass it. No matter where we are focusing our efforts abroad, we must be careful with every move we make- because everyone is watching and every move changes the game.

AAHHH SALES EVERYWHERE! I wish I had got a bigger paycheck this week. Although it's more than my $17.11. Right after I got that pay check I ACCIDENTALLY stop in American Apparel and bought a $30 shirt... oops. Not sorry, it's really effing cute.

Have you guys been getting some good steals? NastyGal (my fav website) has pretty good sales. And Urban Outfitters has free shipping over $50 and Need Supply Co. has free shipping on any US orders! If anyone is an online shopping addict like me, this is a steal. Sales over after 4th of July weekend!

The night before I left I made Megan change into her American flag shirt she bought from Urban Outfitters, to follow up on my Fashion Love the Fourth post.

Such a cute shirt. And look at how happy she is wearing it! God bless America.

Also, we went shopping today and didn't mean to stop in the shoe store ...but it's those damn windows that make you stop. Anyways, my sister bought this really cute pair of Jeffery Campbell shoes

"I've worked really hard, and I can't pay my rent right now but that's why they have credit cards" -My sister. True dat. I support this buy!

Sidenote, I flew home 2 days ago and I'm having a great time at home! Look at how beautiful it is here, how can you not love it?

BOUGHT MY TICKETS!

DID EVERYONE GET YOUR TICKETS?

My friend Libby and I spend a day freaking out because all the midnight showings sold out so fast in some places. I was thinking in my head "I am the worst hp fan. How can I let them sell out? I don't even deserve to go." BUT my girl Libby didn't give up. She purchased us two tickets, and I could not be more excited. (thanks girl) I know it's going to be the best movie out of the 8 of them! Do you guys think it's worth seeing in 3D? I can't decided. I think maybe starting out normal than seeing in 3D is a good plan? I do love 3D movies though.

My friend from Chicago came to visit me tonight with her British boyfriend. It was the first time I met him. Her boyfriend and I spent the majority of the time talking about Harry Potter. Safe to say, I approve Natalie.

FASHION LOVES THE FOURTH

For those of you who don't know about Manhattan Beach... 4th of July is its holiday. It's bigger than Christmas. Everyone gathers on the beach dressed up in the cutest red, white and blue gear. You run into people you haven't seen since high school EVERYWHERE. The best is when they're a little over served...

Since I was born there, I can't help but love this holiday. And I couldn't be any happier that the American flag is in style this season! Forget the British flag, that's soooo last year.

It has been taking over in all articles of clothing. One of my favorite pieces are these shorts by UNIF:

I love the way they placed the pattern, with a little piece of red stripe in the left side pocket! The back is super cute too, it's all blue with one pocket stars.

This isn't just girls fashion we're talking about, boys you can own your very own pair of American vans! Where I'm from, this is all guys wear. When I'm walking around Madison, you can spot who is from the West coast by looking at there shoes. vans, vans, vans, i love them. I own 3 pairs...

And for the girls these Jeffrey Campbells...

I'd totally rock em, if I owned them...

I really, really was fearing July 15th. The 8th Harry Potter movie comes out and ...and then what? what would I do with my life? It's the end of a generation, a legend, an era! Sometimes I still believe I'm going to get my letter in the mail from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Just kidding. (not really)

There is hope for all us out there. There will now be a site run by J.K Rowling which I believe is not to make more money (because I mean... she has more than the Queen of England) to continue the Harry Potter obsession! It's called POTTERMORE

My first fashion post is dedicated to the man I truly, deeply, passionately love. Mr. Jeffrey Campbell that is! If there is anything you're going learn about me, it is that I love shoes. I love clothes, accessories, bags and everything else but NOTHING satisfies me like a new pair of cute shoes. Who's with me?

My first encounter with Jeffrey Campbell shoes was a pair of boots I bought for LF in Manhattan Beach. They were tall brown boots with buckles up the back. I was obsessed.

Daily you can find me checking nastygal.com or solestruck.com to check for the latest JC shoe. I believe JC is the most innovative stylish shoe maker out there today. The company is only ten years old and is still small and family owned in Los Angeles. Based in LA? As if I needed another reason to love you.

This is such an innovative, fresh, sick shoe that I would love to rock around the bars of Madison, WI. So what if I'm practically 6 feet tall wearing them? They're gods gift to shoe lovers.

Looks uncomfortable doesn't it? IT'S NOT. SO COMFORTABLE. I was literally so surprised when I tried this shoe on and how comfortable it is. It's also AWESOME LOOKING! A piece missing where your foot should be? Brilliant. If you're like me and like to turn heads, this is the shoe for you.

3) Avalon Rainbow Platform

Okay I'm sorry but how can you not love these? Rainbows? Who doesn't love rainbows? And on your heels? There really isn't anything more to say. Expect that if anyone has $184.95 to give me...I'd really appreciated it. I need these.

Honestly I can post 100 shoes that you must see. But this is a good taste. JC has also just launched their first handbag collection called Girls We Hated in High School. What a cool effing name.

Cats HarryPotter Fashion Politics

Nowadays people have a blog for everything. Anything you're interested in, you can find it. I have found through my endless nights of surfing the internet that there seems to be this blog culture where you either have a serious blog, a funny blog, or a blog dedicated to one area of interest. This bothered me. And what's the best way to deal with something that bothers you? Do something about it. So here it is- a blog that's humorous (specifically regards to cats and Harry Potter) and more serious (specifically fashion and politics) and hopefully a little different than all the rest.

Why these 4 things?

It's the four things I know best. The four things I'm most interested in. The four things I'll gladly spend my free time discussing. I'm warning you up front that it will be heavily about fashion and politics, with a funny cat video or a harry potter reference every now and then. To quote Almost Famous "I always tell the girls to never take yourself so seriously..." So here begins my contribution to the blogging world!
